18 year old Evoni Williams has been awarded a college scholarship after she was pictured helping an elderly customer
Evoni works as a waitress in a Waffle House in La Marque, Texas, to save money for her college tuition. During her shift, an elderly man came in for some food. When Evoni served him his meal, a customer overheard him explaining how his hands no longer work very well.
According to Laura Wolf, who posted the image on Facebook, Evoni immediately took his plate and began cutting his food for him.
“I don’t know her name but I heard this elderly man tell her his hands don’t work too good. He was also on oxygen and struggling to breathe.”
“Without hesitation, she took his plate and began cutting up his ham.”
“I’m thankful to have seen this act of kindness and caring at the start of my day while everything in this work seems so negative. If we could all be like this waitress and take time to offer a helping hand…”
It didn’t take long before the post went viral, and thousands of people were expressing their desire to thank and reward Evoni.
As a result of her kindness, Texas Southern University has awarded her with a $16,000 scholarship - she can finally begin studying business management.
Not only that, but the mayor of La Marque saw the post. As way of thanks and showing his gratitude for Evoni’s kindness, he declared March 8 2018 as Evoni ‘Nini’ Williams Day.
Evoni, understandably, was moved to tears.
“It’s something I would do any other day” she said.
Well done Evoni. We can’t wait to see what you do in the future!
