If you have a dog, you’ll know that fireworks aren’t always their cup of tea. But with this new anxiety hotline, both you and your pup can stay calm on 5 November
Some dogs are fine, others not so much. If bonfire night for your pup is particularly stressful, this year, you can call an anxiety hotline dedicated to frightened pets and get advice for how to keep them calm.
Healthy dog food company Edgard & Cooper, are launching the service in a bid to help scaredy-dogs and limit the effects of anxiety.
Dog owners will be able to live-chat a team of specialists who can offer free advice on how to keep your pet calm and as happy as possible during the night.
Co-found Louis Chalabi said: “Fireworks travel up to 150mph at up to 120 decibels, it’s no wonder our dogs suffer on Bonfire Night. The service will go live at 6pm on 5 November and will run until 11.30pm that evening.”
Dogs can hear four times the distance of a human and can hear higher pitched sounds, so it’s no wonder the big bangs can frighten them, especially when they don’t know where the sounds are coming from.
So, how do you know if they’re feeling anxious? The more obvious signs may be that they are hiding, or are staying close to you. Other signs include barking more than usual, trembling, drooling or even having an accident on the carpet.
You know your dog more than anyone, so if they are acting differently, consider that stress may be causing the behaviour change before scolding them.
Take them for a long walk in the day to tire them out, keep them comfortable and well-fed, and stay with them, cuddling or massaging them regularly throughout the evening. If you’ve got plans to go out on Bonfire Night, consider getting a pet sitter or having someone they know come to stay.
Head over to Edgard & Cooper on 5 November to access the hotline.
